The new MXR Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor guitar pedal brings the legendary sound of Tom Scholz's famous headphone amp and signal processor to a modern guitar effects pedal.

This reimagined MXR Rockman faithfully recreates the tone of the original Rockman that Scholz used with Boston. It incorporates the same four tonal presets from the original, plus chorus and compression. The presets include two clean modes with distinct EQ profiles, high-power sustain, and two uniquely gritty dirty modes.

The default CLN2 mode produces a clean, crystal-clear tone, while CLN1 mode offers a mid-focused EQ curve for a tight and punchy sound. On the dirty side, Edge mode provides moderate clipping that responds dynamically to Input Gain adjustments and cleans up well with lower guitar volume levels. Distortion mode delivers intense overdrive and sustain, ideal for smooth, fluid lead tones.

A defining feature of the original X100 Rockman sound was its sophisticated compression circuit, which maintained signal clarity in both clean and dirty tones. The MXR Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor incorporates this same circuit, optimized for a slow release in clean modes and a fast release in dirty modes. The compression intensity is directly linked to the Input Gain level—higher Input Gain results in increased compression.

The Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor captures the essence of the pedal that became Tom Scholz's secret weapon in the 1980s rock scene. It delivers crystal-clear cleans, crunchy harmonics, and a shimmering chorus—essential elements that define arena rock.

In the 1980s and even now, Andy’s guitar customers often ask, “How can we achieve that iconic Boston sound?” The answer is here: the new MXR Rockman X100. Contact Andy’s to order yours today!
